Charles E. Martin (born Charles Elmer Martin January 12, 1910, Chelsea, Massachusetts, United States - died June 18, 1995, Portland, Maine, United States (aged 85)) was an American self-taught cartoonist, painter, illustrator and designer. He signed his work with the initials C.E.M. His work was published in Playboy, Time and Life magazines, Harper's, The Saturday Evening Post, The Saturday Review, Punch, Esquire, and The New Yorker for which he illustrated many covers from the 1940s to the 1980s. He has also illustrated a number of books for young readers, and written and illustrated children's picture books of his own, such as Island Winter, Summer Business, For Rent, Island Rescue, and Sam Saves the Day. His work was exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum and various galleries. He is represented in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of the City of New York, Library of Congress and at Syracuse University. He was the father of actor Jared Martin (1941 - 2017).
