Bass or more recently G.H. Bass, is a brand of footwear.
Established in 1876 by George Henry Bass in Maine, USA , G.H.BASS is a global lifestyle brand rooted in timely and timeless classics. The brand offers premium and intentional footwear, apparel, and accessories for men, women, kids and home.
The goal of its creator, George Henry Bass , was to provide farmers , floaters , guides , and other campers with quality work footwear tailored to their needs. Over the next few decades, the company's reputation was such that GH Bass boots were used by American aviation and were worn by pilot Charles Lindbergh during his 1927 transatlantic flight and polar explorer Richard Byrd . However, it wasn't until 1936 that the iconic Weejuns were created , born from a collaboration between a journalist from Esquire newspaper and GH Bass. To create this shoe, they were reportedly inspired by traditional Native American moccasins and those worn by Norwegian farmers . In the 1950s and 1960s , students from prestigious campuses in the Northeast of the United States took them up, making penny loafers a fashion phenomenon . Subsequently, stars such as James Dean , JFK , Cary Grant and, more recently, Michael Jackson , largely contributed to the success of the Weejuns, which continues to this day.

In 2014 Bass is acquired by G-III Apparel Group, owning and operating 160 stores across the US.
Formerly made in the USA , the GH Bass factory is currently located in El Salvador.
