General info :
Carlton is a cigarette brand name used by Imperial Brands PLC (formerly Imperial Tobacco Group PLC), a British multinational tobacco company headquartered in London and Bristol, England. It is the world's fourth-largest international cigarette company measured by market share after Philip Morris International, British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco and the world's largest producer of fine-cut tobacco and tobacco papers. American Tobacco introduced the original Carlton cigarette -- a king size filter -- in 1964. Carlton was marketed as a brand with significantly reduced tar and nicotine levels, particularly when compared with the popular full-flavored brands of that time. R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company used to distribute the brand without significant marketing support. On July 15, 2014, Reynolds American sold the Kool, Winston, Salem, and blu brands to Imperial Tobacco for $7.1 billion. (Not clear if the Carlton brand was also included in the deal).
